Olympic marathon athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has tragically passed away after her boyfriend set her on fire.
The Ugandan long-distance runner took part in the Paris 2024 Games, crossing the finish line 44th in the women’s marathon event.
A statement from the Ugandan Athletics Federation shared on X stated: “We are deeply saddened to report the death of our athlete, Rebecca Cheptegei, early this morning, who fell victim to domestic violence. As a federation, we denounce such acts and demand justice. May she rest in peace.”
