Local Olympian Beppe Grillo and international stars ready for action on 14 June

Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club is proud to host the EAP Malta International 2025 — Malta’s leading annual athletics event — on Saturday, 14 June at the Matthew Micallef St John Stadium in Marsa.

Now in its sixth edition, this event forms part of the European Athletics Promotion (EAP) circuit and the World Athletics Continental Tour – Challenger level, attracting world-class athletes and officials from 34 countries across five continents. Over 150 international participants are confirmed for what is set to be the most competitive edition to date.


Spotlight on Malta’s Top Sprinter: Olympian Beppe Grillo to Represent Host Club Pembroke Athleta

Representing the host club Pembroke Athleta, Beppe Grillo — Malta’s top sprinter and a confirmed Olympian for Paris 2024 — will lead the Maltese charge. A five-time national champion, Grillo has claimed medals at the Games of the Small States of Europe and the Balkan Championships, including a recent gold in Andorra at the GSSE 2025.


International Talent to Watch

Elite international athletes expected in Malta include:

  • Tatiana Melnyk (Ukraine) – A three-time Olympian (2016, 2020, 2024) and national sprint queen, she boasts multiple golds at the Balkan Championships and World University Games.
  • Beppe Grillo (Malta) – Malta’s top sprinter and latest Olympian. A 5-time national champion and Balkan medallist. Various medals in the Small Nations Games, last being Gold in Andorra this month. 
  • Tomas Nemejc (Czechia)  – 200m European Championships Finalist (2024), 1-time 200m National Champion and twice 200m National Indoor Champion.
  • Keenan Blake (Netherlands) – Defending 400m champion and meet record holder.
  • Carys McAuley (Scotland)  –  4x400m Silver Medalist – at Bislett Diamond League (2023), Finalist European Indoor Championships (2023)
  • Dániel Eszes (Hungary) – European U18 champion and current national hurdles champion.
  • Tetiana Keysen (Ukraine) – Triple national 200m champion with indoor titles.
  • Molly Scott (Ireland) – Irish sprint star and former world medalist, back to defend her 100m title.
  • Viktoria Baranivska (Ukraine)   –  Triple Jump Indoor National Champion (2024)
  • Oke Tosin (Nigeria)  – Veteran Triple Jumper, TTJ World Indoor Champion  and Olympic Finalist (2012), 3 times All African Champion and 7 times National Champion

Exciting Events Lined Up

The meet will feature a full programme of sprint, hurdle, and  jump, events. Races to watch include the 100m, 200m, 400m and 110m hurdles, which will feature some of the strongest rivalries yet seen in Malta.
