Nigeria moved into the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a comfortable 4-0 win over Mozambique, ending Mozambique’s impressive run in the tournament.
Mozambique were playing in the knockout stages for the first time, but Nigeria were in control from the start. Victor Osimhen had an early goal ruled out for offside, and Nigeria created many chances before finally scoring after 20 minutes. Ademola Lookman finished calmly into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Five minutes later, Nigeria doubled their lead. Lookman crossed the ball, Akor Adams flicked it on, and Osimhen tapped in from close range. Nigeria continued to attack, while Mozambique failed to take their few chances.
After the break, Nigeria made it 3-0 when Osimhen scored again, this time from another cross by Lookman. Nigeria kept pushing for more goals, and Adams eventually added a fourth with a powerful shot from inside the box.
The win equals Nigeria’s biggest ever AFCON victory. They will now face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarter-finals as they continue their hunt for their first title since 2013.
