Victoria Mboko sails into quarter finals with 53-minute victory

Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko booked her place in the quarter finals of the Pan Pacific Open with an emphatic 6-1, 6-1 win over Germany’s Eva Lys, sealing the match in just 53 minutes.

Mboko, who lifted her first WTA title at the Canadian Open in August, was in complete control from start to finish. The 19-year-old broke serve in the opening game and dropped only three points on serve throughout the first set, wrapping it up in just 25 minutes.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with Mboko’s aggressive baseline play and consistency proving too much for her opponent. A double break midway through the set ensured a comfortable passage into the last eight.

In the quarter finals, Mboko will face either 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina or fellow Canadian Leylah Fernandez in what promises to be a highly anticipated clash.

With her latest dominant performance, Mboko continues to underline her growing reputation as one of the brightest young talents on the WTA Tour.
