Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas had twice the opportunity to play in the finals of a Grand Slam but he was defeated both times.
Novak Djokovic celebrated in both finals, the first Rolan Garros in 2021 and recently in Melburn, at the Australian Open.
Stefanos spoke about defeats from the best tennis player in the world.
“What was the difference between those two finals was that in Melbourne I was able to move on immediately after the ceremony, literally a few minutes later. Last time it really hurt a lot. Especially when I remember that I was so close to winning because I was 2:0 in sets. Later, when I remembered everything, it hurt and I cried. I was very upset”, Tsicipas said honestly.
He also explained his pain that he felt in Paris.
“It was an opportunity for me to do something I didn’t before. I thought of Stefanos a boy, an eight -year -old who watched Rolan Garros and thought it would be nice to play there. I didn’t even think to win. Just to play there. And then came that opportunity to win that beautiful trophy. I thought a lot about my tennis club, where we started. We were a small community, strong close. It was as if I was moving from the village and reached the great Temple of Golden Opportunities, “Stefanos added.
However, Tsitsipas points out that he has now learned how to deal with defeat.
“Now I don’t see the negativity in all this. The path is still beautiful and big. You have to continue to build and work. I believe in fate. It is up to me to continue to do my job and upgrade myself, ” Tsitsipas concluded.
