Stefanos Tsitsipas, a tennis player from Greece, took the opportunity to praise Roland Garros and Wimbledon for changing the coaching rules.
“The coaching was always there. Some coaches may not have used it as much. In my case, it has always been part of what I do in the field. I’m glad that from now on he won’t be punished anymore”, began Tsitsipas and added:
“I see no reason why the coach could not share some of his knowledge with you while you are playing. I feel that it is something quite natural in our sport. It should certainly be used”.
Wimbledon rejected any idea of this, and the position of former director Richard Lewis read:
“We are against it. We believe that tennis is a gladiatorial sport, an individual sport. You go out on the field and there you are alone,” said Lewis.
