Novak Djokovic struck by water bottle whilst signing autographs in Rome Open

Novak Djokovic was hit on his head with a water bottle during the Italian Open in Rome, after advancing to the third round,

The Serbian had just defeated Corentin Moutet and was spotted off the court autographing. While he was in the act of signing, a bottle from the audience struck Djokovic on the head. A clip circulating on social media captured Djokovic falling to his knees, seemingly in pain from the unexpected hit.

According to reports from AP, the bottle that had hit Djokovic was an aluminium-type water bottle that slipped from a child’s backpack and landed on his head. Medical help was provided to Djokovic in the locker room before he was guided off the court.

The statement from the Management of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia read, “While giving autographs to fans after concluding his match on the Central court, Novak Djokovic was hit on the head by a water bottle.

“He received necessary treatment and has since departed from Foro Italico to return to his hotel; there is no concern about his condition.”

Regarding his victory, Djokovic began the match being broken twice by Moutet, which led to a 3-1 lead by the latter. Despite this, the 36-year-old managed to claim victory in the first set 6-3 by winning five games consecutively.
