Nick Kyrgios routinely advanced to the second round of the US Open by defeating his countryman Thanasi Kokkinakis, with a score of 3:0 – 6:3, 6:4, 7:6(4).
In the first two sets, Kyrgios made a break each, which was enough for him to take a 2:0 lead, while the third set saw a bigger fight on both sides of the court.
Nevertheless, the excellent Nick managed to win the third set as well, so he deservedly celebrated passing on.
In the second round, he will have a match against the Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi, who in the first match was better than Ugo Humbert with 3-2 in sets.
