The women’s tournament at Wimbledon 2025 is wide open, with the potential for an eighth straight new champion. With defending champion Barbora Krejcikova struggling with injury, several players will be aiming to lift the famous Venus Rosewater Dish.
Coco Gauff, now ranked world no. 2, returns to the tournament where she made headlines as a 15-year-old. After winning the French Open earlier this month, the 21-year-old is seen as a strong contender despite never going beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon. Tennis legend Martina Navratilova believes Gauff’s athleticism and current form could finally take her to the top on grass.
Aryna Sabalenka is also chasing success after several close calls in 2025. Although she won the Miami and Madrid titles, she fell short in the Australian Open and French Open finals, as well as in other major events. Wimbledon has seen her reach the semi-finals twice, and this year she is viewed by many – Navratilova included – as one of the favourites.
Barbora Krejcikova, the defending champion, may not be fit in time after pulling out of the Eastbourne Open due to a thigh injury. She has only played six matches this year and is facing a late fitness test.
