Novak Djokovic points out that he is very satisfied with his game against Andrey Rublev.
The currently fifth player in the world defeated the Russian after 123 minutes of play, with a score of 3:0 – 6:1, 6:2, 6:4.
“I would rank this match as the second. It was close to the performance from two nights ago. I couldn’t be more pleased with my performance. I play very well from the back, from the baseline, I like to play on this ground and in these conditions. This is the best court for me,” Novak Djokovic began.
He also commented on the conditions of the game.
“You have to adapt, it wasn’t that windy around six when I was warming up, and then it started to feel really strong on this part of the field. Maybe for people who watched from the TV or from the stands, it is not visible, but for us players, it makes a difference. When you play on the other side, you play with a lot of pressure, you have to pick your shots better. Dropping balls is a gamble, but overall, I don’t think the score says how hard it was on the pitch.”
” There were a lot of close games, Andrey is a great player, a great opponent, I have a ton of respect for him. He has a great forehand, he is one of the fastest players. I had a clear plan, it’s one thing to imagine it, and another thing to realize it on the field. I have to sum it all up, I found the best tennis and that’s why I’m the happiest,” Djokovic added.
What was he thinking about during the break?
“I was more connected to machines than anyone else. I did my best and tried every machine to prepare my leg. I continue. I miss tennis during the day off, but it was important to be smart in these conditions, where it was important to prepare. It was unbelievable”, concluded Novak Djokovic.
