Carlos Alcaraz ruled out of Davis Cup Finals with thigh injury

Carlos Alcaraz will not take part in the 2025 Davis Cup Finals in Bologna after suffering a muscle problem in his right thigh.

The world number one travelled to Bologna following his defeat in the ATP Finals title match, ready to join Spain ahead of their quarter-final against the Czech Republic on Thursday, 20 November at 10:00. However, Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw due to a muscular oedema in his right hamstring.

The Spanish tennis federation confirmed the news in an official statement, explaining that Alcaraz felt discomfort in the back of his right thigh during the ATP Finals in Turin. The issue first appeared in the group stage and worsened during the semi-final against Felix Auger-Aliassime and the final against Jannik Sinner.

On Monday, Alcaraz and team doctor Ángel Ruiz Cotorro underwent an MRI scan on the injured area, which confirmed the extent of the problem.

“I am very sorry to announce that I will not be able to play for Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna,” Alcaraz said. “I have an oedema in the right hamstring, and the doctor has recommended that I do not compete. I have always said that playing for Spain is the most beautiful thing there is, and I was very excited to help fight for the Davis Cup. I go home with a heavy heart.”

Spain will now have to adjust their plans in Bologna without their top player, as Alcaraz begins his recovery to return fully fit for the 2026 season.
