Bormla SC continue world dominance with strong showing at Larissa Grand Prix

Bormla Subbuteo Club continued their remarkable run on the international stage with another impressive performance at the Grand Prix of Larissa in Greece, just days after reaching the quarter finals of the Paris Major.

The Maltese side reached yet another final and extended their extraordinary record at the top of the world rankings, remaining in first place globally for an incredible 21 consecutive months while continuing to add podium finishes to their growing tally.

Drawn in Group A, Bormla SC suffered an early setback with a narrow 1-2 defeat against Greece’s Subbuteurs. However, the team responded in commanding fashion, defeating Crimson Horses C 4-0 before securing a 3-1 victory over Scarlet Battalion to top the group and advance to the semi-finals.

In the last four, Bormla produced a determined display to overcome Proteas of Greece 2-1 and secure their place in the final. Despite their strong run, the Maltese side had to settle for silver after losing 0-2 to Scarlet Battalion in the final.

The team representing Bormla SC at the tournament was composed of Jason Pisani, George Ebejer, Jean Carl Tabone and Josef Camilleri.

There were also notable individual performances across the categories. In the Veterans competition, Jason Pisani delivered an excellent campaign to reach the final, where he eventually lost 0-2 to Alberto Di Maggio. On his route to the final, Pisani defeated Papakostantinu in the quarter finals after extra time and edged past Salamouris 1-0 in the semi finals.

In the Open category, George Ebejer reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by eventual winner G. Vlassoupolous, going down 4-1.

Bormla SC concluded the tournament with two silver medals and one bronze, further cementing their status among the world’s elite in the sport.
