France is preparing for the 2030 Winter Olympics with a €520 million investment to upgrade transport and infrastructure in the Alps. The government aims to make the region more accessible and modern, not just for the Games but also for the people living there.
Most of the money, €342 million, will go into improving the railway network, especially the Marseille–Briançon line. This will cut travel time by over an hour. Another €90 million will be used to upgrade roads in the Hautes-Alpes, making it easier and safer to travel between the mountains and the coast.
An additional €120 million will go towards restoring the historic Fort des Trois Têtes in Briançon, which will be used as one of the Olympic Villages.
Officials also plan to launch a green strategy to reduce carbon emissions, support local businesses, and promote sports and healthy living. The government hopes the Games will leave a lasting legacy by improving transport, boosting the economy, and encouraging more people to take part in sport.
Edgar Grospiron, head of the organising committee, said the goal is to make the Games useful, long-lasting, and true to Olympic values.
