The winners of May’s Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award are the Swieqi Phoenix Volleyball U15 Team and gymnast Sophie St John.
Swieqi Phoenix U15 Team won their 10th title in a row, staying unbeaten for ten straight years, an incredible achievement.
Fourteen-year-old Sophie St John, one of the youngest athletes on Team Malta at the Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra, had a fantastic performance in artistic gymnastics. She won 3 gold medals (Vault, Balance Beam, and Team Event), 1 silver (All-Around), and 1 bronze (Floor Exercise).
The award was presented by Atlas Insurance CEO Matthew von Brockdorff, with Malta Sports Journalists Association President Clinton Buhagiar also present.
This monthly award is run by Atlas Insurance and the Malta Sports Journalists Association. It recognises top performances by athletes under 21. Sports clubs and federations are encouraged to send in nominations if they believe one of their young athletes deserves recognition.
