The second edition of the Marindex Christmas volleyball tournament organised by Paola Volleyball Club was successfully held between 13th and 17th December 2023 at the Hibernians Sports Pavilion in Corradino. Paola Executive Security (Super League), Paola Yes2Health Fitness Club (First Division), Birkirkara (Super League) and Mġarr (First Division) volleyball teams participated in this edition of the tournament. This tournament enabled the clubs to introduce new players as well as to promote volleyball in Malta.
The first game of the tournament was a direct confrontation between Paola Executive Security and Paola Yes2Health Fitness Club where Paola Executive Security won the game 3-0. In the second game, Birkirkara battled their way through to beat Mġarr 3-1. In the following game, Birkirkara were defeated by Paola Executive Security with the score of 3-1. In the game between Mġarr and Paola Yes2Health Fitness Club, Mġarr won the game 3-0.
In the first game of the final day of the tournament, Birkirkara defeated Paola Yes2Health Fitness Club 3-0. In the final game, Mġarr played against Paola Executive Security, where the Paola team dominated the game and won 3-0. With this result, Paola Executive Security finished on top of the classification after winning all 3 games of the tournament.
Asked to comment about this tournament, Dr Kenneth Vella, Paola Volleyball Club President, thanked Marindex Trophies and the Malta Volleyball Association whose support was vital for the tournament to be held.
The club also thanks the Hibernians Sports Association, Izibet, Dragonara Casino and Brasserie, Maypole, HandsOn Systems Limited and De Paola Pharmacy for their continuous support towards the club.
