Following the successful awareness campaigns of two editions of SPORT FOR PARKINSON’S in April 2022 and November 2023, STEP UP FOR PARKINSON’S VOLUNTARY ORGANISATION announces the launch of the third edition.
SPORT FOR PARKINSON’S was initiated, first of all, to create further awareness about the role of physical activity in alleviating Parkinson’s symptoms. Secondly, its purpose was to raise funds for STEP UP FOR PARKINSON’S VOLUNTARY ORGANISATION to be able to continue providing free specialised movement classes to people living with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers in different localities in Malta, and hopefully soon in Gozo, as well as to support the sustainability of the newly opened Parkinson’s Therapy Centre in Naxxar. Thirdly, this national campaign aims to promote social inclusion through the values of sport.
As was the case in the previous two editions, clubs and associations are being invited to participate in this initiative for a noble cause in the hope that this third edition will be the biggest manifestation of solidarity through sports so far. We are delighted that this national campaign is being supported by both the Maltese Olympic Committee and SportMalta.
All national associations and registered clubs are being encouraged to organise sport events between September and November 2024 in aid of more than 2,000 people living with Parkinson’s (the number is increasing steadily by 1% per month), and to support STEP UP FOR PARKINSON’S VOLUNTARY ORGANISATION in its incessant efforts to enhance the quality of their lives.
Representatives of participating sport federations and affiliated member clubs are being invited to attend the launch of the third edition of SPORT FOR PARKINSON’S on MONDAY 26TH AUGUST 2024 @ 11:00 at GIARDINI LAMBROSA, RABAT, during which full details shall be announced. Refreshments will follow.
Short speeches will be delivered by Education and Sport Minister Hon. Clifton Grima, a Spokesperson for the Opposition, SportMalta Chairman Matthew Pisani, Maltese Olympic Committee General Secretary Kevin Azzopardi, and the undersigned.
