Malta was once again represented on the international hockey scene thanks to Keith Calleja, who took part as an official umpire at the EuroHockey Championship III in Kirklareli, Turkey, held from late July to early August 2025.
This tournament brought together developing hockey nations from across Europe. Keith’s selection shows the growing respect for Maltese officials at this level.

During the competition, Keith officiated four men’s matches, including:
- Finland vs Luxembourg (2–2)
- Lithuania’s 3–1 win over Luxembourg
- Hungary’s close 3–2 win against Finland
He was praised for staying calm, fair, and professional throughout, showing strong control in each match.
Keith also worked as a reserve umpire for other games, a trusted role that demands full focus and a deep understanding of the sport.
These matches in Turkey add to Keith’s international experience, which already includes the EuroHockey ID Championships in Amsterdam in 2022.
Off the pitch, Keith is a key figure at Qormi Hockey Club, one of Malta’s top teams. He continues to help grow the sport locally through officiating, training, and promoting hockey in the community.
His recent work in Turkey is another proud moment for Maltese hockey and a clear message to up-and-coming officials: with hard work and passion, international opportunities are possible.
