Egyptian handball club Dynamo Alex has appointed Maltese international handball expert Joseph Tanti as its new Head of Handball Development, in what is being seen as a notable move for both the club and for Maltese sport on the international stage.
Tanti, who has spent decades at the heart of handball in Malta and across Europe, arrives in Egypt with a reputation as one of the most experienced figures the small Mediterranean island nation has produced in the sport. His journey in handball began as a player, where he competed professionally in Denmark and Italy, also winning the Sicily Cup along the way, before returning to Malta to forge an equally impressive career in coaching.
As a coach on home soil, Tanti proved himself a consistent winner, claiming league titles, cup competitions, and the Super Cup with Maltese clubs. His proudest achievement, however, came when he guided the Malta national handball team to the quarter-finals of an IHF international tournament, a remarkable feat for a country of Malta’s size.

Now, Tanti brings that wealth of experience to Dynamo Alex, where he will lead a structured development programme covering the club’s men’s and women’s teams. His work will include detailed video analysis of matches, modern training programmes designed to develop players both technically and mentally, and regular online coaching sessions for the club’s staff to introduce European methods and standards.
For Malta, it is yet another reminder that the island continues to punch well above its weight on the international sporting scene.
Joseph Tanti is expected to begin his new role immediately.
