We had only two days of testing to understand and interpret the new layout, newly asphalted track. It was quite challenging and the ever changing conditions did not make it any easier.
On race day, in free practice we were still experimenting with setups and trying to improve since the track was still evolving quicker than we were changing setups.
Still struggling with finding an optimized setup, and struggling to get the kart behave to our liking, we managed to wrestle the kart into 3rd position. It was obvious that we had to risk it all and gamble big on a different setup for the race.
Luck favors the brave, and the setup change did indeed pay off. The kart felt a lot better in the final stint. Starting from 3rd position in the race we had to be aggressive and gain positions at the start. Going into the first corner we gambled by taking the risky tight dirty inner line of the corner. This maneuver rewarded us the 2nd position. It was time to hunt the front position. Head down and lap after lap we pushed to the limit. We were closing the gap and we also managed to set the fastest lap of the race, however it was not enough to catch and overtake the competitor in first. Since the race was a mixed category with over and under 10 years, I crossed the finish line in 2nd place overall, however the competitor in front was of the over 10 category, which means I got 1st in my Under 10 category.
