Sophie Hediger, a 26-year-old member of Switzerland’s national snowboard cross team, has tragically died in an avalanche at the Arosa mountain resort in eastern Switzerland. The incident occurred on Monday, with her passing confirmed by the Swiss-Ski federation.
“We are speechless, and our thoughts are with Sophie’s family, to whom we express our deepest condolences,” said Walter Reusser, Swiss-Ski’s Sport CEO, in a heartfelt statement.
Hediger had recently celebrated career milestones, earning her first two World Cup podium finishes during the 2023-24 season. She also represented Switzerland at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, showcasing her exceptional talent on the international stage.
The Swiss-Ski federation stated that further details surrounding her death will remain private, in accordance with the wishes of her family and partner.
