Public consultation launches for Games vision

The Organising Committee for Brisbane 2032 has launched a public survey to help shape the vision for the Games, as the IOC Coordination Commission held its first visit to the city.

So far, they’ve gathered ideas from around 1,000 people, including athletes and sports organisations. Now the public – both in Australia and abroad – is encouraged to share their thoughts via a survey open until 20 June (available at brisbane2032.org/vision).

IOC leaders, including President Thomas Bach and President-elect Kirsty Coventry, met with Australian officials and local community leaders during their visit. They also visited schools, stadium sites, and venues in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, all part of the long-term legacy plan for the Games.

The Queensland Government has accepted most of the recommendations from a recent review of sports infrastructure. These plans will now be reviewed by international sports bodies.

Other updates include:

  • The sports programme will be decided in 2026, with a chance to propose new sports.
  • A Reconciliation Action Plan is in progress to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • The Games are expected to boost jobs and business through upcoming procurement and commercial programmes.

IOC President Bach said that Brisbane 2032 is focused on leaving a positive legacy, supporting athletes, and encouraging collaboration.

President-elect Coventry and Commission Chair Cojuangco Jaworski both praised the strong local support and progress being made.

Organising Committee President Andrew Liveris said the visit was key in sharing updates and confirmed everyone’s commitment to making the Games a success.
