Samwel Bartolo and Robert Farrugia Randon win FISTF "Major" Individual tournaments in Open and Under-16 categories

In the first day of the “Major” Tournament held in Frameries, Belgium, the `Individual` categories took place and Malta obtained impressive results.

In the top “Open” Category, Malta Champion Samuel Bartolo, currently ranked No.6 in the world rankings, and after last week`s victory at the International Open of Malta, re-confirmed his excellent current form by reaching the final of this “FISTF Major”.  In the match, Bartolo dominated proceedings and beat Spanish player and World Ranked No.1 Carlos Flores with a convincing 3-1 score.

But there was another big result for Malta as in the Under-16 category, Robert Farrugia Randon, ranked No.9 in the FISTF World Ranking of this category, reached his third consecutive final in this tournament, and it was a case of “third time lucky” when he beat Louis Soret of France, Under-16  World Ranked No.1 with a 5-1 score, once again, leaving no doubt on the outcome of this match from the very start.

In the “Veterans”, Charles Aquilina was unlucky to be eliminated in the quarter finals against Gibraltar player and eventual winner of this category, John Field. The match ended in a 3-3 draw and Aquilina lost out 5-4 on penalties.
