The Sirens ASC women’s water polo team have officially booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Gauteng Invitational Water Polo Tournament, currently underway in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Maltese side, invited to represent Malta at this prestigious international event, have impressed throughout the group stage. After opening the tournament with a narrow 4-7 defeat against Tridents, Sirens bounced back to claim a hard-fought 12-11 victory over Tuks, showing resilience and fighting spirit.
On Friday 4 April, Sirens delivered their most commanding performance yet, defeating UCT (University of Cape Town) with an emphatic 12-5 win, securing second place in their group and qualification to the knockout phase.
The tournament, which runs until Sunday, features 14 international teams and is one of Southern Africa’s leading events for senior water polo. It offers a platform not only for competition but also for international exchange and development.
Sirens are now set to face their next challenge in the quarter-finals on Saturday. With momentum on their side and strong performances behind them, the team carries the hopes of Maltese supporters as they aim to continue their impressive run.
