Parma aim to halt Inter’s title charge amid relegation battle

Parma will mark a major milestone this weekend as they play their 1,001st Serie A match — but there will be little time for celebration as league leaders Inter Milan visit the Stadio Ennio Tardini in a high-stakes clash at both ends of the table.

Cristian Chivu’s side battled to a 0-0 draw at Hellas Verona last time out — their third consecutive stalemate — and continue to hover just three points above the relegation zone. Despite the nervy position, the former Romania international has sparked a flicker of revival (W1, D3, L1), with home form proving key. Four of Parma’s five league wins this season have come on home turf, where they are unbeaten in their last two.

But any hope of extending that run will be tested to the limit against an Inter side who have their eyes firmly fixed on the Scudetto. Simone Inzaghi’s men drew 1-1 in their Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against AC Milan in midweek, extending their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions (W7, D2), and currently sit three points clear at the top of Serie A.

A Champions League quarter-final trip to Bayern Munich looms, but Inter’s domestic focus remains sharp, with three straight league wins underlining their title credentials. However, their away form is not bulletproof — the Nerazzurri have failed to win four of their last five on the road (D2, L2), and each of their last three league victories over Parma away from home have come by just a single-goal margin.

Team News:
Parma are expected to rely heavily on Dennis Man, who has scored all six of his goals this season at home, with three serving as the opening goal. Inter’s danger man, Marcus Thuram, has been decisive for the nerazzuri so far this season, netting Serie A goals in several Inter wins, including in the reverse fixture.

Did You Know?
No team in Serie A has kept more first-half clean sheets this season than Inter (20), highlighting their defensive discipline, particularly in the opening 45 minutes.

Head-to-Head:
Parma haven’t beaten Inter since September 2018 (D2, L5), and they’ll need to defy both history and form if they are to get a result here.
