Gozo is set to welcome seasoned water polo athletes from across the globe later this year, as the island prepares to host its first International Masters Water Polo Tournament. Scheduled from November 28 to 30, 2025, the three-day competition will bring veteran players together at the state-of-the-art Gozo Aquatic Centre.
The tournament is being organised through a collaborative effort between Barracudas Sports Club, Balluta Young Boys (BYB), Comino Masters, and Otters ASC. The event also enjoys the support of VisitMalta, the official tourism portal of the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), highlighting the country’s growing commitment to hosting international sporting events.
Held at the newly constructed Gozo Aquatic Centre, the event will make full use of the venue’s Olympic-size pool and modern facilities. As the island’s premier indoor sports complex, the centre offers ideal conditions for high-level water polo competition.
The tournament is open to male athletes aged 40 and above, who will be divided into two age categories: 40+ and 50+. Each participating team may register up to 15 players, with every team guaranteed a minimum of six matches throughout the tournament.
Games will be conducted in line with the latest FINA rules for Masters water polo. Each match will include a five-minute warm-up period followed by a 25-minute playing session. The participation fee has been set at €125 per player.
With teams from various countries already expressing interest, the event is expected to attract both competitive action and a vibrant atmosphere, reinforcing Gozo’s potential as a destination for international sports tourism.
