Champions League Women Final Four returns to Piraeus in May

The pinnacle of women’s European club water polo is heading back to familiar waters as the Champions League Women Final Four returns to Piraeus, Greece, on 2–3 May. The historic venue, home to Olympiacos SFP, is set to host a thrilling showdown featuring four of Europe’s finest sides in what promises to be another unforgettable edition.

The defending champions, Astralpool CN Sabadell, will look to retain their crown, but standing in their way are a trio of formidable challengers: hosts Olympiacos, CN Sant Andreu, and Final Four debutants FTC-Telekom Waterpolo of Hungary.

Olympiacos, one of Europe’s most storied clubs, will be eager to reclaim the title in front of their passionate home supporters. The Piraeus pool famously witnessed the team lift the trophy in 2022, in what was the first edition held with fans following the Covid-19 pandemic. That final saw the Greek side overpower Sabadell in a thrilling contest, sealing a special night on home soil.

This year, the two giants meet again, this time in the semi-finals, for a rematch of last season’s final, which Sabadell won on their own turf in Barcelona. With a 1–1 head-to-head record in recent finals, tensions and excitement will be high as they battle for a place in the title decider.

Also returning to the Final Four are fellow Spanish club CN Sant Andreu, who claimed the bronze medal in last year’s tournament. They will face Hungary’s FTC-Telekom Waterpolo, making their debut at this stage, eager to announce themselves on the European scene with a statement performance.

Over the years, the Piraeus pool has become a stronghold of elite water polo, having hosted countless high-stakes clashes from both the men’s and women’s Champions League. With its electric atmosphere and deep-rooted water polo culture, it’s a fitting stage for the culmination of the season.

Four top teams. Two intense days. One champion. All eyes now turn to Piraeus, where water polo’s elite prepare for one of the sport’s most prestigious battles.
