Maltese shooters delivered a series of strong performances at the 2025 European Shotgun Championship held in Châteauroux, France, as they competed in both Trap and Skeet individual events across junior and senior categories.
In the Trap Men Junior category, Nico Sciberras came agonisingly close to qualifying for the finals, finishing just one target short of a shoot-off spot. Sciberras hit an impressive 118 out of 125 targets, earning him 8th place out of a competitive field of 58 athletes. Abiel Cassar, only 18 years old, also impressed with a solid 112, while Ryan Bugeja registered a respectable 106.
In the senior Trap Men division, Gianluca Chetcuti recorded a strong score of 119, narrowly missing out on qualification in what was a high-scoring event. James Galea Jr concluded his competition with a score of 109.
The Skeet Men Junior event saw Andre Cassar deliver one of Malta’s standout performances, hitting 117 out of 125 targets and securing 16th place out of 58 competitors. In the senior Skeet Men category, Clive Farrugia marked his return to international competition by scoring 118, while Marlon Attard and Liam Sciberras followed closely with scores of 113 and 112 respectively.
Malta’s delegation was supported by coaches and officials, including Bruno Gubellini and John Mary Bugeja for the Skeet events, while Antonello Iezzi and Nicholas Carabott accompanied the Trap team.
The next stop for Malta’s national shooting team will be the World Championships in Athens, Greece, scheduled between October 8 and 19, 2025, where the athletes will look to build on the momentum gained in Châteauroux and continue making their mark on the international stage.
