Anglu Ciappara triumphs in Carmel Grech Trophy at Qormi clay shooting club

Anglu Ciappara claimed top honours at the Carmel Grech Trophy held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club. The competition, a highlight in Malta’s trap shooting calendar, attracted a strong lineup of marksmen, all vying for the coveted title.

Participants shot at 50 qualifying targets, followed by a final round of 25 targets using single shots, testing both precision and mental focus under pressure. Ciappara entered the final round with a score of 40 out of 50 and delivered a composed and clinical performance to hit 22 out of 25 targets in the final, securing first place overall. Jean Pierre Coleiro, who led the qualifiers with an impressive 43 hits, finished second after a shoot-off with Philip Camilleri. Both shooters had registered 20 hits in the final, but Coleiro edged out Camilleri in the deciding shoot-off with two targets to one. Camilleri, who had qualified with a solid 39, settled for third place.

Brian Galea, who also made it to the final with 40 hits, followed closely with a score of 19 in the final round. Trophy namesake Carmel Grech and Ian Spiteri, who both qualified with 27 hits, completed the final standings with scores of 14 and 12, respectively.

The event also recognised winners in their respective classes. In Class A, Jean Pierre Coleiro took first place ahead of Brian Galea. Anglu Ciappara topped Class B, followed by Philip Camilleri. In Class C, Carmel Grech edged out Ian Spiteri, with George Grech finishing third. The competition showcased sharp shooting and sportsmanship across all levels, with Ciappara’s calm execution in the final proving decisive.

Attention now turns to the upcoming President’s Cup, set to take place on Sunday, August 10, at the Malta National Shooting Ranges, promising another exciting chapter for Malta’s shooting sport community.
