The Malta Knights national rugby league team recently met with Dr. Robert Abela, Prime Minister of Malta, and Hon. Clifton Grima, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, at Castille, Malta.
Having remained undefeated in Europe for the past three years and currently ranked 13th in the IRL world rankings, the Malta Rugby League (MRL) discussed the team’s remarkable achievements in 2024, including their 42-0 victory over Italy away from home. They also talked about their upcoming schedule for 2025, which includes the European Championship later this year.
Jean-Pierre Zarb, President of the Malta Rugby League and vice-captain of the Malta Knights, said: “Today’s meeting with the Prime Minister is a major milestone for rugby league in Malta. It shows the growing recognition of our sport and its ability to bring communities together, inspire young athletes, and raise Malta’s profile internationally.”
Anthony Micallef, Team Manager of the Malta Knights, added: “As we celebrate 20 years of Maltese Rugby League, today’s meeting with the Prime Minister at Castille represents all the supporters, staff, and players who have been part of the Malta Knights, both now and in the past.”
The MRL also presented the Prime Minister with a replica Malta Knights team shirt as a gift.
