The 2025 LifeStar Malta Marathon, set to take place on Sunday, February 23, will be a landmark event, celebrating its 40th edition. More than 1,500 foreign athletes from over 60 countries have already signed up, and the organisers expect a record turnout of participants. Along with the Marathon and Half Marathon, there will also be a Walkathon, a non-competitive event covering 21.0975 km. The race will see the return of last year’s winners, Alaa’ Hrioued and Jemina Farley, as well as Moroccan Sanaa Achahbar, who won the Half Marathon.

Race director Joe Micallef shared that registrations are coming in daily from athletes worldwide, with expectations for over 3,000 foreign athletes in 2025, a significant increase from the 1,930 who participated in 2024. This will bring tourists to Malta, benefiting the local economy during the quieter months.
LifeStar chairman Paolo Catalfamo expressed excitement about sponsoring the marathon again, highlighting its focus on health, community, and resilience. He hopes the event will inspire more people to improve their well-being.
The 2025 edition will once again be broadcast live on TVM Sport for the second consecutive year, with over four hours of coverage planned, including race start and finish, interviews, and the awards ceremony. Pierre Cordina will also provide live commentary on Bay Easy 100.2 from the finish in Sliema.

There will be 20 pacers for the marathon and another 20 for the half marathon, each wearing a distinctive T-shirt showing the time they will be pacing. Additionally, a kids’ fun run, organised by Victor Camilleri from Pembroke Athleta AC, will take place during the marathon in Sliema, with nearly 700 children expected to participate.
For the first time, a 5 km race will be held, with part of the proceeds going to charity organisations such as Caritas, Puttino Cares, and Hopexchange Malta.
Joe Micallef, who has been race director since the first Malta Marathon in 1986, said, “What better way to celebrate the 40th edition of the Malta Marathon?”
