Assikura Final for Gold Category Horses set for 22 February at Malta Equidrome

The Assikura Final for Gold Category Horses will take place on 22 February at Malta Equidrome, following its official launch during a press conference held at the venue.

Organised by the Malta Racing Club, the championship is one of the principal events in the early part of the Maltese trotting calendar. A total of 60 horses competed during the qualifying stages, with the top performers securing a place in the final. The upcoming race will determine this year’s Gold Category champion.

Speaking during the launch, Andrew Grech, Managing Director of Assikura Insurance Brokers, referred to the company’s continued support for Maltese horse racing. Assikura sponsors multiple events throughout the year, and its involvement in the Gold Category championship forms part of its broader partnership within the local racing sector.

Representing the Malta Racing Club, Vice Chairman Tony Demanuele stated that the Club remains committed to organising the event in a professional and fair manner. He also acknowledged the preparation undertaken by owners ahead of the final.

Matthew Brincat, Chief Executive Officer of Malta Equidrome, thanked the sponsors and extended his wishes to the participating owners and drivers. He stated that the Assikura Final continues to hold an important place within the national racing calendar and confirmed ongoing investment in the sporting complex aimed at improving the experience for both horses and spectators.

The final is expected to draw significant public interest as the leading Gold Category contenders compete for the title. The 2025 edition was won by Summerrazz, driven by Paul Galea.
