Maltese teams gear up for European Snooker Championship in Albufeira

The European Snooker Championship in Albufeira, Portugal, is set to enter its final phase on Sunday, with three teams from Malta competing in the men’s team event. This prestigious championship features 24 teams from 13 countries, and the Maltese players are eager to showcase their skills on the European stage.

Team Composition

The Maltese delegation includes six talented players, divided into three teams:

  • Malta 1: Aaron Busuttil and Chris Peplow
  • Malta 2: Alex Borg and his son Isaac Borg
  • Malta 3: Joseph Casha and Philip Ciantar

These teams will compete in a series of matches over the next four days, culminating in the knockout rounds that begin on Monday.

Group Phase Matches

The championship format includes a group phase, with each team required to face three opponents. The Maltese teams are placed in the following groups:

  • Malta 1 is drawn in Group E and will compete against Poland 2, Ireland 1, and Ukraine 1.
  • Malta 2 finds itself in Group F, up against Germany, Belgium 2, and Ireland 2.
  • Malta 3 will take on France 2, Poland 3, and Portugal 1.

Each team will have two matches on Sunday, with the final group matches scheduled for Monday. The top 16 teams will advance to the knockout phase later that evening.
