Day 2 of the Orkney Island Games saw Team Gozo deliver another solid set of performances across multiple disciplines, reflecting the athletes’ growing momentum and commitment.
In football, the Gozo women’s team secured an impressive 2-0 victory over the host team, Orkney. Goals by Joeline Camilleri and Ana Mercieca sealed the result, building on their earlier performance and keeping Gozo’s hopes high for the remainder of the tournament.

On the athletics track, Charlton Debono earned Gozo’s first medal of the Games with a strong showing in the 10,000m race. His time of 32:05.30 secured a bronze medal, marking a significant milestone for the team. Fellow runner Isaac Attard also put in a commendable effort, finishing in seventh place with a time of 32:48.63.
Meanwhile, at Stromness Golf Club, Danijel Bogdanovic faced difficult conditions on the course. Strong winds and challenging terrain proved to be major factors, but Bogdanovic managed to complete the round with a score of 82.

In the pool, swimmer Kai Debono continued to make strides by setting a personal best of 33.58 seconds in the 50m backstroke. His result earned him second place in his heat, underlining his steady progression on the international stage.
Team Gozo’s athletes have so far shown determination and versatility across various sports, setting a positive tone for the remainder of the Games.
