Charlton Debono led the way for Gozo at the Island Games in Orkney with a brilliant run in the Men’s Half Marathon, securing a silver medal after finishing second with a time of 1:11:24. It was a standout performance in a highly competitive field of 35 runners.
Gozo’s other athletes also delivered strong results in the same race:
- Isaac Attard placed 8th with a time of 1:14:04, finishing comfortably in the top 10.
- Matthew Xuereb came 20th with a time of 1:17:42, showing good form in tough conditions.
In the Women’s Half Marathon, Michelle Dimech impressed with an 11th-place finish out of 25 runners, clocking in at 1:28:31. Her effort was another proud moment for Gozo in a demanding race.

Meanwhile, the Gozo women’s football team ended their Island Games campaign with a 3–0 defeat against the Western Isles. They finished 4th out of 11 teams, which is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of their hard work, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament.
