360Sports Malta Premier: Bottom 6
Zabbar St Patrick…………………2
Melita…………………………………0
Zabbar St. Patrick guaranteed their place in the 360Sports Malta Premier League for next season after defeating Melita 2-0 in a Bottom 6 clash held on Monday at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
The result spells relegation play-out disappointment for Melita, who are now certain to finish bottom of the Bottom 6 standings. Their fate will be decided in a do-or-die clash against either Balzan or Naxxar Lions — the two sides set to meet in a crucial fixture to determine who finishes third from bottom. The team that ends second from bottom will suffer automatic relegation.
Zabbar opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time. Diogo Tavares played a clever through ball to Marcelo Santos, who broke down the right and calmly slotted past goalkeeper Josef Mizzi.
The Saints sealed the victory in the 72nd minute. Marc Van De Font Bovenkamp lost possession under pressure from David Oliveira, allowing Tavares to pounce. The Zabbar forward drove into the box and finished clinically past the Melita shot-stopper to double his side’s lead and secure a vital three points.
With this win, Zabbar St. Patrick can now look ahead to another season in the top flight, while Melita must prepare for a last-chance play-out to preserve their Premier League status.
