European Aquatics has announced the launch of Open Water Cup – Beyond the Buoy, a brand-new video magazine series that will debut alongside the 2025 Open Water Cup season. Departing from the traditional live-stream format, this innovative series promises a more intimate and engaging view into the world of open water swimming by focusing on the stories, landscapes, and people that define the sport.
Each stage of the series will feature two unique episodes:
- Race Preview: Released the afternoon before each event, these episodes will provide in-depth insights into the racecourse, environmental conditions, and athletes to watch.
- Post-Race Wrap-Up: Released in the evening after the race or the following morning, this episode will highlight race highlights, athlete reactions, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.
Through this format, Beyond the Buoy will not only showcase athletic performance but also celebrate the natural beauty of the host locations and the essential roles played by coaches, volunteers, and event organizers.
Adding a fresh voice to the series is world and European open water champion Leonie Beck, who will take on a new role as a presenter. She’ll be joined by seasoned aquatics broadcaster Nick Hope, alongside a rotation of guest hosts throughout the season.
“I’m thrilled to be presenting the Open Water Cup coverage and to experience the sport I love from a completely new perspective,” said Beck. “It’s a great opportunity to bring fans even closer to the athletes, the atmosphere, and all the behind-the-scenes moments. It’s a new adventure for me – and I can’t wait to get started in Cyprus!”
Open Water Cup – Beyond the Buoy will be available to stream for free on European Aquatics’ official digital platforms. As the season opener in Cyprus approaches, fans can look forward to a dynamic and immersive new way to experience the sport, highlighting not just the results, but the rich tapestry of people and places that shape the Open Water Cup.
