Marsaxlokk kicked off their Top Six commitments with a commanding victory over Mosta, a win that temporarily sees them sit alone at the top of the table.
The Southsiders struck early and never looked back, creating several more scoring chances through swift attacking moves that constantly caught the Mosta defence off balance.
Just 90 seconds in, Marsaxlokk opened the scoring from a corner. Lopez Dessypris’s initial header was saved by Ngoubi Demba, but the same player pounced on the rebound and fired in from a tight angle.
Mosta responded in the 16th minute following a corner, with a final shot by Nathan Agius narrowly missing the target. In the 23rd minute, Mosta launched another attack with multiple goal attempts, only to be denied by a solid defensive effort and the Marsaxlokk goalkeeper.
Just a minute later, Marsaxlokk hit back immediately. Messias played in Jorge Soares, who made no mistake from an angle, rifling home Marsaxlokkโs second. In the 36th minute, a free kick by Aguirre found Gomes, whose header went just over.
Mosta came out in the second half on the front foot, but it was Marsaxlokk who scored again in the 53rd minute with a swift counterattack. Messias fed Soares, who calmly lobbed the goalkeeper for his second of the match.
Three minutes later, another sharp move by Marsaxlokk saw Messias shoot just wide. In the 75th minute, Goncalves had a go from distance for Mosta, but his effort missed the target.
Four minutes from time, Marsaxlokk added a fourth goal when Gomes slotted a low shot past the Mosta goalkeeper.
