Malta Premier League announces new season fixtures and fresh initiatives

The Malta Premier League 2025/26 season is officially underway following the live fixture draw on Monday night, broadcast on TVMSport+. Senior MPL official Alan Abela outlined the league’s goals and new initiatives, highlighting a strong focus on fan attendance, financial growth, and a better matchday experience.

“For the first time, we’ve ended the season with a profit of over €80,000,” Abela said. “This shows real progress and gives us more confidence moving forward.”

One major highlight for the new season is the return of Valletta FC, a club with a large fan base expected to further boost attendance.

The league is encouraging all clubs to play their part by organising hospitality events around matches, with the MPL offering full support to make this easier. Children under 12 will once again enjoy free entry to stadiums when accompanied by an adult, a move aimed at keeping the game family-friendly.

Due to challenges with stadium infrastructure, the league will focus more on using the Tony Bezzina Stadium, where the fan atmosphere is considered stronger. To help clubs save on security and police costs, high-profile matches will no longer be held on Sundays.
