Floriana moved back to the top of the YoHealth Malta Premier with a 2-1 win over Marsaxlokk at the National Stadium.
The Greens took the lead in the 17th minute when Federico Varela sent in a cross and captain Dunstan Vella finished from close range, easily placing the ball past Pablo Sanchez.
Marsaxlokk levelled in the 28th minute after a corner from the right caused problems in the box. Floriana defender Iago Mendonça tried to head the ball clear, but instead sent it into his own net.
Floriana scored what proved to be the winner in the 43rd minute after a fast counter-attack. Jake Grech, who was named man of the match, made a strong solo run before playing a perfect pass to Charles M’Mombwa. Although he almost lost control, M’Mombwa managed to slip the ball past Sanchez to seal the victory and send Floriana back to the top on 26 points, one ahead of champions Ħamrun Spartans.
