Myles Bermann will not be joining Birkirkara during the current winter transfer window after the Stripes decided to withdraw from negotiations for the Malta international left back.
Birkirkara had been in discussions with Sliema Wanderers over the signing of the 26-year-old defender, but the club has now pulled out of the talks. The decision was confirmed by Birkirkara president Michael Valenzia, bringing an end to the club’s interest in the player. According to Valenzia, the reasons were not of an economic nature but purely related to other squad decision options taken by the stripes. Therefore, this has opened the door for Floriana, who now appears well placed to pursue his signature.
Meanwhile, Birkirkara have begun a significant squad overhaul as the club looks to mould the team according to Gianluca Festa’s tactical vision. The club has officially confirmed the termination of the contracts of defender Stefan Marjanovic, midfielder Pablo Gaitan, and forward Abubakar Asumah.
Further replacements are expected before the January 30 deadline, with more players set to have their contracts terminated and released as the committee and Festa continue to shape the squad to suit their footballing philosophy. The Italian coach was handed the team after the season had already started, making the January window a key period for restructuring.
On the incoming front, Malta Sport understands that Alessandro Coppola is edging closer to a return to Birkirkara. As previously reported on 19 December 2025, the 25-year-old Italian defender, who left last season to join Arzignano Valchiampo, is now likely to rejoin the Stripes in a move aimed at strengthening the defensive unit.
With exits confirmed, more departures anticipated and targeted reinforcements lined up, Birkirkara’s January transfer window is shaping up to be a decisive phase as the club works to finalise its squad in line with Festa’s tactical blueprint for the remainder of the campaign.
