Birkirkara FC……………………….2
Birkirkara FC claimed a 2-0 victory over Żabbar St Patrick FC, boosting their chances of finishing in the Top Six of the YoHealth Malta Premier League. Lucas Macula and Kemar Reid scored the goals that gave the Stripes a valuable three points, moving them level on 13 points with sixth-placed Marsaxlokk and two ahead of Sliema Wanderers.
The game was a tight affair for much of the 90 minutes, with clear scoring opportunities few and far between. Early on, Żabbar posed the greater attacking threat, with Brian Gambarte setting up Cejas, who fired over from close range. Birkirkara struggled to create chances and were largely contained until late in the first half.
The breakthrough came just before half-time. Leandro Lacunza played a precise pass to Lucas Macula, who chipped the ball over the advancing Luca Camilleri to give Birkirkara the lead.
Żabbar tried to respond after the break, with substitute Jurgen Pisani coming close when he drove into the box, but his shot went wide. Żabbar St Patrick could not capitalise on their limited chances, and the match largely settled into a quiet period as Birkirkara focused on protecting their advantage.
Birkirkara sealed the win in stoppage time. Kemar Reid used his strength to win possession and finish past Camilleri, ensuring the three points for his side.
The result leaves Birkirkara in fifth place, while Żabbar St Patrick remain eighth. Birkirkara coach Gianluca Festa will take satisfaction from a solid defensive display, while Żabbar coach Aniello Parisi will be looking to address his team’s lack of attacking threat.
