Maltese international Maria Farrugia is set to continue her journey in English football after signing a two-year contract with Bristol City.
For the 2025/2026 campaign, Bristol City will be competing in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2, England’s second-tier division. The team concluded last season in sixth place out of eleven.
Farrugia, who spent the previous season with Sheffield United in the same division, netted eight goals in 22 appearances across all competitions. Although Sheffield United suffered relegation to the third tier, Farrugia stood out with her performances. She earned a nomination for the Championship’s Player of the Year and had two of her goals shortlisted for Goal of the Season—an accolade she eventually won.
The Gozitan forward, who previously played for Sunderland and Durham, was instrumental in Malta’s recent promotion to League B of the UEFA Women’s Nations League. To date, she has scored 11 goals at international level.
