Valletta recorded a 2-0 win over Gżira United in the YoHealth Malta Premier League, scoring once in each half to secure the points at the National Stadium.

The Citizens entered the fixture aiming to respond after their recent loss to Birkirkara. They delivered the required result with a controlled display that combined defensive organisation with efficiency in front of goal.

Clear chances were limited during the first half as both teams struggled to build sustained pressure in the final third. Gżira United came closest midway through the half when Brooklyn Borg reacted inside the penalty area, but his effort was blocked by Valletta goalkeeper Adilson Maringa.

As the interval approached, Valletta made their pressure count. Ahmed Adebayo exchanged passes with Yuri Messias before seeing his initial attempt saved by Jake Colombo. The forward reacted quickest and headed home the rebound to open the scoring.

Gżira looked to respond before the break, yet Stasa Bastic’s attempt cleared the crossbar, leaving Valletta ahead at half time.

The second half began with Valletta increasing their advantage. After defending a corner, Sava Radic cleared the ball upfield. Adebayo directed it into space for Andrea Zammit, who advanced on goal and lifted the ball over Colombo to double the lead in the 50th minute.

From that point, Valletta managed the game effectively. Gżira United continued to press, and Maxuell Maia headed wide from inside the area, but clear opportunities were limited. Valletta remained compact and protected their two goal cushion during the closing stages.

In added time, Brandon Paiber struck the crossbar with an inswinging ball, but the outcome was already decided.

The result moves Valletta closer to the upper positions in the YoHealth Malta Premier League table as the season continues.
