Ħamrun Spartans were held to a 0-0 draw by Żabbar St Patrick at the National Stadium in the Closing Round of the YoHealth Malta Premier League, dropping two points in the process.

Ħamrun controlled possession for long periods but were unable to find a breakthrough against a well organised Żabbar side. The visitors defended in numbers and remained compact throughout, despite playing the final 20 minutes with ten men.

Żabbar began the match with intent and created the first opening after ten minutes. Majok Ayom found space on the edge of the penalty area and struck towards goal, but his effort cleared the crossbar.

Ħamrun found it difficult to create clear chances during the first half. Their first notable attempt arrived in the 31st minute when Shaisen Attard drove into the area, only to see his shot saved by goalkeeper Manuel Djalo. Żabbar continued to pose a threat on the counter attack, and Brian Gambarte went close with a low drive that finished just wide.

Before the interval, Ħamrun were forced into a substitution after Rafael Compri sustained an injury and was replaced by Emerson Marcelina.

The home side increased the tempo after the break and gained a numerical advantage in the 64th minute. Djalo brought down Jonny on the edge of the penalty area and was shown a straight red card. Substitute goalkeeper Ignacio Colombo was introduced as Żabbar adjusted their shape.

Despite the extra player, Ħamrun struggled to test Colombo consistently. They moved the ball around the final third but clear opportunities remained limited. Their best chance came eight minutes from time when Jonny delivered into the area for Eder, whose header was kept out by Colombo.

Colombo was called into action again late on, pushing away Attard’s cross shot to preserve the clean sheet. Żabbar maintained their defensive discipline through the closing stages to secure their first point of the Closing Round under new coach Gilbert Agius.

The result leaves Ħamrun Spartans with a share of the points after a match in which they saw more of the ball but could not convert possession into goals, while Żabbar St Patrick take a positive result from the encounter.
