Valletta FC are a step closer to building their own football campus after Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that the government will propose allocating a site in Pembroke for Parliamentary approval.
The proposed site will be used to develop Valletta FC’s Football Campus, described as a flagship regional sports and community project. The club has been in discussions with the authorities for several years in search of land to build a stadium and training facilities of their own.
In a statement, Valletta FC said the process has been extensive and collaborative, leading to the formal proposal being submitted for Parliamentary consideration. The club highlighted that the project is intended to deliver long-term social benefits, with a focus on youth development, wellbeing, health, social inclusion and safer communities.
The planned campus is expected to be a first-of-its-kind football facility in Malta, forming part of a wider master plan aimed at improving sporting infrastructure. According to the club, the project will create opportunities not only in football but also in areas such as sports science, rehabilitation, management and education.
Addressing club members, Abela said the government is honouring its commitment to Valletta FC and described the project as a long-awaited dream that must now move forward at a strong pace.
Club president Claudio Grech said the announcement finally brings clarity to the club’s future after decades of uncertainty. He added that the campus will help strengthen the football landscape in Malta and is a key part of the club’s long-term strategy to grow into a regional football powerhouse.
The land allocation is now subject to Parliamentary approval, after which the project can move into its next phase.
