Sporting CP moved into the top eight of the Champions League after a dramatic 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon. Luis Suárez scored two late goals to secure a shock victory.
PSG came into the match in good form and started strongly. Vitinha and Nuno Mendes both tested Sporting goalkeeper Rui Silva early on. The game was open, with chances at both ends, as Geny Catamo went close for Sporting and Marquinhos threatened for PSG.
PSG thought they had taken the lead after 30 minutes when Warren Zaïre-Emery headed in, but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up. The French champions continued to control possession, but Sporting created the best chance before half-time when Hidemasa Morita shot over from close range.
Sporting nearly opened the scoring early in the second half when Luis Suárez just failed to reach Francisco Trincão’s cross. PSG pushed harder for a goal, but Ousmane Dembélé was denied by a good save, and Désiré Doué fired narrowly wide.
Sporting finally took the lead in the 74th minute. A deflected shot fell to Suárez, who calmly finished past the goalkeeper. PSG responded quickly, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curling a superb equaliser into the top corner.
Both teams looked for a winner late on, and Sporting found it in the final minute. Trincão’s shot was saved, but Suárez reacted quickest to head in the rebound and seal a famous win.
The result lifts Sporting to sixth place in the table, while PSG were left stunned by the late defeat.
