Manchester City earned their sixth win in seven matches with a convincing 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, extending their unbeaten run against German sides to nine games.
Dortmund started bravely, trying to control possession early on, but that approach left them open at the back. City quickly took advantage, with Phil Foden testing goalkeeper Gregor Kobel from distance before Savinho fired the rebound over. Foden tried again from range ten minutes later, this time slotting the ball confidently into the bottom corner after being set up by Tijjani Reijnders.
It didn’t take long for Erling Haaland to join the scoresheet. Jérémy Doku kept a loose ball alive and crossed for Haaland, who smashed home from close range to make it 2-0. Dortmund barely threatened before the break, though Karim Adeyemi forced a save from Gianluigi Donnarumma just before half time.
On Bonfire Night, it was Foden providing the fireworks. The England star added his second goal with another fine strike from around 20 yards, curling it into the same corner as his first. City continued to dominate and could have scored again when Savinho volleyed over from a Foden cross.
Dortmund pulled one back late on when Julian Ryerson’s quick pass found Waldemar Anton, who finished neatly at the near post. Adeyemi almost made it 3–2, but John Stones made a crucial block. In stoppage time, substitute Rayan Cherki sealed the win with City’s fourth goal.
The result stretched City’s unbeaten home run in Champions League league-phase matches to 23 games.
