Jubilee Cup – 125 Anniversary
Marsaxlokk……2
Hibernians…….2
Marsaxlokk win 4-2 on penalties
Marsaxlokk became the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Enemed Jubilee Cup after defeating Hibernians 4-2 on penalties following a 2–2 draw.
In the 26th minute, Hibernians were awarded a penalty after their coach Branko Nišević used the first-ever review card in Maltese football, leading to the first use of the Football Video Support (FVS) system. The referee confirmed that Jake Ghio had handled the ball inside the box, and Lucas Villela scored from the penalty spot to put Hibernians 1-0 up.

Marsaxlokk equalised nine minutes later when Enrico Pepe struck home after a free kick from Nikolai Muscat was deflected by the Hibernians defence. Just before half-time, Marsaxlokk took the lead through a header by Fred from an Aguirre corner, but Hibernians quickly levelled again after Lucas Caruana’s free kick slipped through the hands of goalkeeper Sanchez Nino, ending the first half 2-2.
Both teams created chances in the second half, but neither managed to score, and the match went to penalties. Sanchez became Marsaxlokk’s hero by saving two spot kicks as his team won 4-2 in the shootout to advance to the next round.
