Ten Hag: We need more leaders, this is just the beginning

Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag recorded the first victory on the bench of the team from Old Trafford in the derby match against Liverpool.

“We can talk about tactics, but it all boils down to attitude. They communicated with each other and were combative. I wanted a different approach and a different attitude and we brought that to the field. This is just the beginning. I think we can play better and be more dangerous. To be a team and to show fighting spirit, that’s what we saw today”, said Erik ten Hag for Sky Sport after the first victory of the season.

United was flawless in every part of the field and deservedly won 2:1 with goals from Sancho and Rashford.

“Of course, it’s not always about that. I said that we have to act on the field and not talk too much. I said they need to make sure they are a team. To be brave, to fight, to give each other options. I’m happy because Rashford and Sancho scored. Fernandes took responsibility, and the captain’s armband encouraged him. He showed that he is a leader. He and Varan made the difference. But not only them, we need more leaders. If you want to win, you have to have leaders and the spirit we showed today,” continued Ten Hag.
