Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is not thinking about resigning despite another setback and relegation in the group stage of the Champions League.
In the fifth round of their group, Atletico played 2:2 at home with Bayer Leverkusen, leaving first Club Brugge and second Porto unattainable in the standings before the last round.
“The moment is difficult, but I will not resign. I’m staying at the club and as long as it’s like that, we’ll be chasing that Champions League trophy. Atlético deserves that and we need that trophy. I’m a stubborn person, I set that for myself,” said Simeone, who has led Atletico to the Champions League final twice, but lost the finals to Real Madrid both times, in 2014 and 2016.
With this club, Simeone was the champion of Spain twice, won the Europa League twice, two European Super Cups and one Spanish King’s Cup and one Spanish Super Cup each.
